After graduation, I attended Moorehead for a year then spent the summer in Ct with relatives and had made up my mind that I was going to stay there and either go to school or get a job. Uncle Sam had a different plan and I had to return home to visit the draft board. I was classified 4-F for health reasons. Therefore I had to stay in Greenville and go to work in the family business which was not what I really wanted to do.
The following fall Minnie Bell and I saw each other at the County Fair that Greenville was having. We enjoyed catching up on what had been going on since high school. The next weekend when she was home from school I asked her out for a movie and the rest is history. We've been married for 41 years.
I continued to work at the shop with my parents until the summer of 1968 at which time I chose to go to New Orleans and try to find a job. I went to work for a local frame shop and worked there for two years. It was during that time Minnie B and I got married, we lived in New Orleans for a year then moved back to Greenville where I went back to the family business and M B went back to the public school system where she stayed until retirement.
I worked at the shop until 1985 that is when I started my own business building stained glass windows. God blessed us with this adventure in my life. I didn't make a fortune, but our needs were met and I was happy designing and building windows.
I have won many awards with my work and have stained glass projects from north to south and coast to coast, and a few in other countries.
Unfortunatly I had to retire on disability two years ago because of health. I could no longer do any of the grinding of glass and soldering the seams the fumes of the solder and the glass dust affected my lungs also other long term health prolems begin to show up.
Anyway, Minnie Bell and I are enjoying thaking it easy just doing what we want to. We now have hree beautiful grandchildred that we can go see anytime we want to or stay away if we want.
Thanks to Robin for setting up the web site, it'll be a great asset when we start planning another reunion.
