It is with sadness we report the death of James Nowell.  Visitation is at Benoit Union Church, Benoit, MS from 4:00 - 5:00 p.m. followed by a memorial service at 5:00 on Friday, March 14.  Plese remember his family in this time of grief and sadness.

i knew james very well, matter fact they lived near our grocery store on e. alexander street. we had great time at e. e. bass jr hi football and a track discus thrower. my deep condolencent to his family, robert chow

So sad to hear of the death of James.  I went to some of the eighth grade dances and the carnival in the A & P Shopping Center with him.  Such fond memories.  I know we will all miss him!

James Lamar Nowell

Memorial services for James Lamar Nowell, 67, of Greenville will be at 5:00 p.m., Friday, March 14, 2014 at Benoit Union Church. He died Monday, March 10, 2014 at Delta Regional Medical Center.  Arrangements are under the direction of Boone Funeral Home, Greenville.
Mr. Nowell graduated from Greenville High School and from Mississippi State University where he played football.  He was employed with Shell Oil Company in Houston, TX and then returned to Greenville in 1971.  After his return to Greenville he owned and operated Ramsey Transportation Towboat Company.  His towboats moved barges with fuel to Gerald Andrus Power Plant under System Fuel Inc.,  Wilkerson Barge Line, General Marine Towing and MMM Transportation.  He was a member of Benoit Union Presbyterian Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Elry Lamar and Estelle Moore Nowell. He is survived by his wife, Princella W. Nowell of Greenville; 2 daughters, Caroline N. Schattner of Plano, TX and Kristen Nowell of Huntsville, AL; and 2 granddaughters, Mary Ann Schattner and Ashley Elizabeth Schattner of Plano, TX.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to services at the church.  In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to American Cancer Society or American Heart Association.
